It has quickly become something I truly enjoy. I’m still learning as I go, but I’m passionate about showing that you don’t have to be an expert or super fast to enjoy running and feel proud of your progress. You can stop, start, and still be proud of simply getting out there in the fresh air. I’m so excited to be part of Run Akaroa and can’t wait to share my journey and cheer others on along the way. 💛

I have entered Run Akaroa because it delivers the best of both worlds. Sweeping views across Akaroa Harbour while your feet fly over a 100% sealed course, so no technical terrain slows you down. It's the perfect combination of scenic beauty and fast racing.

Located just outside Christchurch, this event is incredibly accessible yet feels like a destination race, so was a quick addition to next year's race calendar!

Hi, I’m Tyler Hills, a chef from Christchurch with a love for creativity — both in the kitchen and in life. When I’m not plating dishes or building unique dining experiences, I’m chasing new challenges that push me physically and mentally. Run Akaroa is exactly that: a chance to test myself, soak up the stunning Peninsula views, and reconnect with that sense of flow you only find on the move. For me, running is a lot like cooking — it’s about rhythm, balance, and showing up with passion. I’m excited to be part of such an inspiring community event and to remind myself that the finish line always tastes better when you’ve earned it.

Hey, I’m Jono!

Dad of two, lifelong sports lover who stumbled into long distance running after completing a half marathon on a whim. I’m now hooked on running and chasing that feeling of completing my first ever marathon (and staying in shape to chase the kids for years to come)

You’ll find me running in the evenings when the kids are in bed or out exploring the Marlborough region with my family.

My wife is equal parts my biggest supporter and critic, usually offering up simple but effective encouragement like “run faster, do better”

Akaroa is the perfect place to attempt my first ever full marathon, much like the Marlborough Sounds there are stunning views across the harbour and Bays making running even more enjoyable.

I’m excited (and nervous) for the event and can’t wait to see you all there crossing that finish line!

Hey I’m Matt.

I’m pumped for the 2026 Run Akaroa Half Marathon! The epic views and the glorious downhill finish into Akaroa were my motivation to get involved.

You can’t beat having a destination run so close to home.

I’m a 37-year-old, mid-pack, running-obsessed grandad who's out every morning keeping my 800+ day streak alive. Rain, shine, or when it feels like a total slog, I lace up, leash up the dog, and off we go. Running’s my way to explore, clear my head, and balance out all the treats.

My partner tells me to have a rest day, and I remind her that I already did… back in September 2023.

I’ve met heaps of great people out running, and I can’t wait to see everyone on the start line!

Hi I'm Greer!

My weight loss journey has been wild, messy, emotional, and honestly one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. After having gastric bypass, I had to learn how to trust my body again and show up for myself in ways I never had before. Running became that thing that made me feel strong. Not just “fitness strong”—but mentally strong. The kind of strong where you realise you can do hard things even on the days you don’t feel like it. So, I’m running the Akaroa Half Marathon as a celebration. A big “look how far I’ve come.”

The hills, the distance, the grind—it’s all symbolic of the journey I’ve already been on. I’m running for the old me, the current me, and the future me who keeps choosing herself. This is my moment to show up, take up space, and own the damn finish line.

What started as a way to clear my head has become something so much bigger — a space where I challenge myself, find confidence, and connect with others chasing their own goals. I love sharing my journey online because running has given me so much, and if my story can encourage even one person to lace up and give it a go, that means everything to me. I’m running Run Akaroa to celebrate how far I’ve come and reminding myself that I can do hard things. I can’t wait to share my training coming up to the race and see you all on the start line in Akaroa!

I’ve been part of the trail and road running scene for over a decade and love being involved in communities like Team CP and DGRS. For me, running is about more than just fitness it’s about connection, adventure, and showing that big goals are possible, even with a busy life and whānau.

I can’t wait to be part of the Run Akaroa vibe!

Hi I’m Bec Wilmott, a 41 year old with a strong passion for all forms of fitness. From running the streets of Rolleston to early morning gym sessions and the odd event thrown in between.
My family has had a permanent caravan in Akaroa for five years, and we holiday regularly amongst the incredible scenery. Having an event like this in my home away from home is super exciting.
For me, getting to the start line is more than just a race. After battling a series of injuries since having my two children, running has become my time to celebrate consistency and resilience. If you’re a parent or someone navigating a comeback, I know the struggle is real!
I can’t wait to take on the challenge of the half marathon along the breathtaking Summit Road. Follow my training journey for honest tips, struggles and motivation.
